What are third-party cookies?
Third-party cookies are set by a website other than the one user visits. These third-party cookies are usually created and off-loaded on the client browser by third-party scripts incorporated in the website user visit. These are often used by online advertisers to track your visit to the particular sites.
Example:
Consider a website has Facebook-Like widget implemented on its website. When a user likes a particular post on the website, Facebook might set cookies on the user browser. This intern helps Facebook provide suggestions on pages/groups/ads matching the visitor information stored in the cookie when the user visits FB.
How Freshmarketer sets cookies?
Freshmarketer can track your visitor data only when a cookie is set on the website or webpage. To get an accurate result of all your site’s visitors, Freshmarketer sets third-party cookies from app.freshmarketer.com on your site where the JS code is integrated.

Troubleshooting: Disabling third-party cookies from browser
Chrome
Follow the below steps if you’re using a Chrome browser.
Click on the vertical ellipsis icon at the top right corner of the webpage.
Select Settings from the drop-down menu.
In Chrome browser settings, search for “Cookie” in the search box
Search results display Privacy settings of the browser.
Click on the Content Settings button.
The Content Settings page opens.
Disable the option: Block third-party cookies and site data.
Click Done.
Refresh the webpage or site on which Freshmarketer’s experiments are running. Now, Freshmarketer can set cookies from app.freshmarketer.com on your site and track your visitor data.
Firefox
If you’re a Firefox user, follow the below steps:
Open the Firefox browser and click on the hamburger icon at the right corner of the webpage.
Select Preferences from the options.
Select Privacy from the left panel.
The privacy page opens with History section.
Set Firefox will: to Use custom settings for history.
Under History section, ensure that the Accept cookies from sites option is enabled.
To allow third-party cookies, set Never for the option Accept third-party cookies.
Now, close the preferences page and your changes will be automatically saved.
Internet Explorer
Follow the below steps if you’re using Internet Explorer.
Open Internet Explorer and click on Tools icon at the right corner of the page.
Select Internet Options from the drop-down menu.
Click on Privacy tab on the Internet Options pop-up.
Click on Advanced from the Privacy tab.
The Advanced Privacy Settings pop-up appears.
Under cookies section, set Third-party Cookies from Block to Accept.
Click Ok to save your changes.
Safari
If you’re a Safari browser, follow the steps below:
Open Safari browser and click on Safari at the top right corner of your desktop.
Select Preferences.
Select Privacy.
Set Cookies and website data: to Always allow.
Close the page and your changes will be automatically saved.
To allow third-party cookies in Opera, follow the below steps:
Open Opera browser and click on Opera at the top right corner of the desktop.
Select Preferences.
The preferences page opens. Select Privacy & Security from the drop-down menu.
Search for “Cookies” in the search bar.
Uncheck Block third-party cookies and site data.
Close the page and your changes will be automatically saved.
